🛡 Safety Checklist

Before exchanging contacts or meeting in person, keep these basic safety rules in mind. Even though we strive to moderate listings and respond to complaints, your safety is your responsibility. Trust your gut — if something feels off, it’s okay to walk away.

📍 1. Start communication in the site’s chat

Before exchanging contacts, talk through the platform. Share basic information like:

  • Your first name
  • What area you live in (but not your full address)
  • What you’re offering or looking for
  • Whether the help is one-time or ongoing
  • Why you need help or why you’re able to offer it

Details help build trust and spot potential mismatches early on.

👥 2. Exchange contacts — only if there’s trust

If the person seems open, consistent, and communication feels natural — you can share phone numbers and discuss meeting in person.

🔍 3. How to ensure the person is real and reliable?

  • Ask for their social media profile or reviews (if appropriate).
  • Chat about local landmarks or routines — like favorite parks, schools, or activities.
  • If they avoid sharing anything — that’s okay, but check whether their story feels real and consistent.

🏙 4. Meet in a public place

For a first meeting, choose a public location: playground, library, café, or park.

Do not: get into their car or go to their home immediately.

It’s safer to walk and talk in public or open spaces.

🚫 5. Set your boundaries

  • When are you available to help?
  • Are you okay with visiting someone’s home?
  • Do you prefer to keep communication only through the platform?

Clear boundaries help avoid confusion or pressure.

⚠️ 6. Trust your intuition

  • Feel pressured, rushed, or manipulated? Take a step back.
  • It’s okay to say no or stop communication if you feel uncomfortable.
  • Don’t share your address, phone number, or social media unless you fully trust the person.

🗣 7. Inform someone close before meeting

Let a trusted friend or relative know:

  • Where you’re going
  • Who you’re meeting
  • When you expect to return
  • Optionally, share your live location

👶 Checklist – Help with Children

Before leaving your children with someone, spend some time together. This helps assess comfort and compatibility for everyone involved.

🗣 Discuss:

  • Boundaries — yours and your child’s:
❗ What is absolutely not acceptable (e.g., slapping, shouting, food restrictions, touching private areas).
  • Views on safety, nutrition, and screen time.
  • Parenting style:
How they interact with their own children.
    How they respond to misbehavior.
Whether they respect your boundaries and requests.

🧩 Observe:

  • How your children interact with theirs:
Do they reconnect after a conflict?
If not interested in group play, can they play separately without tension?

🐣 Start small:

Let them supervise while you’re nearby — for example, cleaning or working in the next room.

🛒 Build gradually:

If all goes well, you can try a short outing (e.g., grocery shopping) while they watch the children.

🤝 Mutual trust:

Only after mutual comfort and trust, consider deeper cooperation or long-term help.

🏡 Checklist – Help Around the House

💬 Be transparent:

  • Explain how often and why you need help.
  • Maybe it’s one-time support or an ongoing need — both are okay with honesty.

Important:
Women Together is not a platform for finding free regular labor.
It’s a community built on mutual support during challenging times — not a substitute for paid services.
If someone is consistently taking advantage of others’ kindness, it should be addressed.

🧽 Clarify tasks:

What kind of help do you need? Cleaning, cooking, organizing, pet care, assistance after illness?

📍 Show where things are:

Explain where to find supplies: vacuum, rags, cleaners, keys, tools — and how to use them.

🚫 What not to do:

  • List off-limits areas (rooms, drawers, private belongings).
  • Warn about anything that shouldn’t be turned on, opened, or moved.

📝 Leave instructions if needed:

  • How to lock/unlock the door.
  • Where to leave the key.
  • What to do in an emergency — include contacts and steps.
  • If you have pets, give a heads-up: e.g., “We have a shy cat — better not to touch.”

💛 Show appreciation:

Even when help is voluntary, value their time and effort. A warm thank-you, tea, or kind note can mean a lot.
